The underwriting queue stops being first-in, first-out
Scoring models trained on years of claims history, with the score inside the underwriting queue next to the submission and the drivers spelled out.

The problem
For an insurer of physical things, the book of risk is the operation. Years of claims, inspections, and policy history sit in the policy admin system, while underwriters triage submissions in the order they arrive.
First-in, first-out means the risks worth winning wait behind the ones that aren't, and the history that could tell them apart stays unqueried.
02
The approach
The build we scope in this scenario trains scoring models on that claims history and puts the score inside the underwriting queue itself, next to the submission.
The drivers are spelled out rather than hidden: age of asset, loss history at the site, inspection findings. An underwriter can see why a submission scored the way it did, and disagree.
03
The outcome
Underwriters keep the decision; the queue stops being first-in, first-out.
The engagement's one number is whichever the book answers to: loss ratio on the segment, or time-to-quote on the risks worth winning.
The question this answers
Which of the submissions that arrived this morning should an underwriter see first?
